Description

Canon EF 50mm f1.8
Canon L EF 8-15mm f4
Canon L EF 24-105mm
Canon L EF 35-350mm f3.5-5.6
Tamron EF 28-300mm f3.5-6.3

I compiled a comparison of all the following lenses at exactly same condition, all on tripod, all at f6.3, 1/200 shutter speed, iso 100, at varied focal lengths, all on a tripod on a canon 5d mark 3

Now this image uploaded here on deviant art is highly compressed so i uploaded jpgs at original resolution of all focal lengths, at column by column, just download the folder here: www.dropbox.com/sh/a2lvse91f1d…

open the background.jpg file in photoshop, then click and drag the 5 jpgs of the lenses into the opened photoshop document and allign them all to the right, now you can toggle each layer of and on and compare all the lenses yourself

i didnt upload the ready psd as its around 3gb whilst jpgs total around 200mb

To begin this Critique I shall say, "Thank You!!" The day I stumbled upon this was one of my more lucky days in the last month or so, as I was surprised by my father in law with an offering of a gift of a (used) Canon Rebel complete with three lens, a remote control for taking the pictures from afar and a case w/ hoods for the lens too! Anyway point being that I feel like this compilation you put together was a Good Luck Charm!

On a more serious note, I think that the organization and thoroughness of your comparison is wonderful and gives even a newbie like me, a great visual to work with while starting to use a more powerful camera and lens too! I have shared it on my facebook page having found it so useful a guide, and am pleased to have it open in a tab in my browser quasi-permanently to peek back at!

I think that the impact is huge for someone like me at least, being that you can see how truly different each lens/distance truly does make on the picture and how important it is to know which is best for what you're trying to do. The technique (as mentioned) is great, I think you chose a nice simple subject to photograph for the samples and the layout of the "guide" is easy to read w/ clear images.

I only took off one star for originality as I do feel like the concept of a Guide is not a new one for this type of thing, however I think it deserves a very high rating for you taking the time to make it and put it all together!

Great work and thanks again, I hope this critique is helpful and not too vague lol! ^_^
